Who we are

We don't have user accounts, comment forms or newsletters, and we never ask for payment details. We don't sell personal data.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages people read. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technology to do this. In the UK and the European Economic Area, analytics only runs after you agree to it in the consent banner. You can also block it with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

We also use Microsoft Clarity to see how people use our pages, through heatmaps and session replays that show clicks, scrolling and mouse movement. Clarity follows the same consent rule. Microsoft handles this data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Both tools load through Google Tag Manager, and you can change your choice with the "Cookie settings" button in the footer.

Advertising

Once advertising is enabled, ads are served by Google AdSense, as our advertising disclosure explains. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance. In the UK and the EEA, personalized ads are only shown with your consent. You can manage ad personalization in Google's ad settings, and you can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

Cookies

Our cookie policy lists every cookie and similar technology the site uses, what each one does, and how long it lasts.

  • Consent for analytics and advertising cookies.
  • Legitimate interests for server logs that keep the site secure and working.
  • Legitimate interests for replying to emails you send us.

How long we keep data

We keep emails for as long as needed to deal with your message and any follow-up, and delete them within 24 months. Google Analytics data is kept for 14 months. Server logs are kept by our host for a short period, usually no more than 30 days.

Who processes data for us

We use a small number of service providers: our website host and content delivery network, Google (Analytics, Tag Manager and AdSense), Microsoft (Clarity) and our email provider. Some of them process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where UK or EU data is transferred, they rely on approved safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR and US state laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent at any time. To make a request, email us with the subject "Privacy request". You can also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK.

Children

This site is written for adults dealing with home repairs. It is not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Return to the FoundationAnswers website at any time.
